The week of April 23-27

Sunshine! So exciting! The weather is supposed to be beautiful this week and boy are we ready for it!

Running program: our school wide running program has started. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday right after recess our whole school will be running laps of the school and field as part of our Physical and Health Education program. Please help by making sure your child has appropriate footwear (we can finally put the winter boots away!)

Friday April 27 is a professional development and new curriculum day. Students are not in attendance but teachers will be hard at work!

In other news…
PAC is taking on the project of finishing our sand box and then building some raised bed gardens for our students. Teachers are excited to have the opportunity to plant the garden and grow vegetables. This is a fantastic way to teach about the environment, agriculture, healthy eating and so much more! The plan is to have the garden beds ready for planting this May, and our fast growing crops will be ready to eat by the end of June, whereas other crops will be ready when we come back in September. We will be looking for some volunteers to help with watering and weeding over the summer (with eating rights of course:) Many of the PAC members have volunteered to help as well. We are excited about this new venture. Salmon Arm West is a beautiful rural school in the middle of agricultureal areas and we are excited to take advantage of this.
